Facility - Overview

Due to its elevated position (7,500 feet) in the Himalayas, Dunagiri's climate remains cool, agreeable all round with a sunshine that will remind you of spring at any time of the year. The coolest times are November to February when night temperatures are sub-zero. September /October and March/April are also excellent months to be here. Monsoon arrives in June and lasts until August. Everything becomes incredibly green at this time and it’s particularly beautiful and delightful time to visit. Winters are bathed in warm sunshine with most amazing view of the snow peaks. Spring brings a whistle and a song to your lips as one tunes into a vibrant and regenrating earth.

Winter nights are chilly (rooms have ‘bukharis’ - wood-burning stoves making them delightfully cozy). It generally snows in December-January, but even in winters the sun shines crisp and bright, making it very pleasant to be outdoors during the day.

Woolens are required almost year round. Even in the peak of summer in June when most of North India is blistering with heat, one finds a shawl or a light pullover to be very welcome during evenings and late night.

Dunagiri-Monsoons brings magic as well as rains.
Do not say, 'It is morning,' and dismiss it with a name of yesterday. See it for the first time as a newborn child that has no name. --Tagore.
